Welcome to Fail & Fortune Where Chaos Becomes Canon
Ever had a session go completely off the rails because someone brought the wrong character sheet? Or lost 3 hours of perfect audio to a rogue OBS update?
Yeah. Same.
Welcome to Fail & Fortune — a podcast for everyone who’s ever tried to run a smooth tabletop game or record an actual play… and ended up fighting more tech than monsters.
🎙️ What is Fail & Fortune?
Fail & Fortune is a new interview-style show where I (Dave — DM of The Arcane Dice Podcast) sit down with TTRPG creators, actual play podcasters, dungeon masters, and players to talk about the moments that nearly broke their shows — and the ones that made it all worth it.
We're talking:
Total party wipes because of a pun
Mic cables that betray you mid-monologue
Emotional arcs that somehow still landed after a cursed dice night
The behind-the-scenes chaos that never made it into the final edit
And those magical, unforgettable campaign moments that remind us why we play
💀 Why Start with the Fails?
Because no one gets it right the first time. Or the tenth.
TTRPG storytelling is beautiful, messy, and deeply human. And in a space that’s often carefully curated for perfection (hello, TikTok trailers), I wanted to make something a little more honest. A little funnier. A little too real.
This show is about making space for vulnerability, laughter, and the lessons learned in the wreckage.
🔮 Who's It For?
Actual play creators looking for solidarity
New DMs who think they’re the only ones winging it
Long-time players with tales of glorious disasters
Anyone who’s ever hit “record” and prayed to the dice gods
If you’ve ever edited out a 20-minute pizza debate… you belong here.
📅 What’s Coming?
We’ve already got some amazing guests lined up — from up-and-coming shows to seasoned podcasters — all ready to share what didn’t go according to plan.
Episodes drop weekly, and we’ll be posting highlight clips, Shorts, guest guides, and bonus stories right here on the blog too.

🎲 Final Thoughts from the DM Chair
This show is brand new, and like all great campaigns, I’m building it one episode at a time. If you’re reading this — thank you. Truly. You're early, you're brave, and you're probably a little chaotic.
Let’s roll with that.
See you at the table,– Dave Jones Host, Fail & Fortune
